Introduction

We at Adventist Book Centre (Pty) Ltd (“ABC”) value your privacy and take the protection of your personal information seriously. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you access and use our website, mobile sites, and software applications (our “Platforms”).

Scope

This Privacy Policy applies to all users of our Platforms, including registered users.

Key Terms

“Personal Information” and “process/processing” have the same meanings as defined in the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (“POPI”).
“We”, “us”, or “our” refers to ABC.
“You” and “your” refers to every person accessing or using our Platforms.

registered user(s)” refers to anyone registered on our Platforms and has provided us with a unique email address and password as well as other Personal Information in order to order goods and services on our Platforms.

IF YOU ARE BELOW THE AGE OF 18

If you are below the age of 18 years, you must always get permission from your parent or guardian before you use our Platforms or give us your Personal Information. We may check that your parent or guardian has given you such permission, for example by asking you to provide us with your parent’s or guardian’s contact details so we can contact them. We may also check that the contact details you have given us are correct and are the details of a person who is actually your parent or guardian. If we are not able to verify such permission or if a parent or guardian confirms that you do not have their permission, you may not use our Platforms.

Further, ABC may not sell liquor or tobacco products to you if you are under the age of 18 regardless of any supervision by a parent or guardian. You may be requested to provide proof of your age before receiving any liquor or tobacco products ordered via our Platforms.


COLLECTION AND PROCESSING OF PERSONAL INFORMATION

We collect and process Personal Information to:

ABC processes Personal Information in a manner that is reasonable, adequate, relevant, non-excessive and purpose-specific. In order for users to access and use our Platforms we collect and process some Personal Information. When you become a registered user, we have to collect and process your Personal Information to render our services to you.

When you register to use our Platforms, we may collect the following Personal Information:

  • name and surname.
  • email address.
  • physical address.
  • gender.
  • mobile phone number.
  • online identifiers.
  • date of birth.
  • identification number.
  • banking and/or credit and/or debit card details.

This site also collects anonymous demographic information, which is not unique to you, such as your postal code, purchase history, preferences, interests and favourites.

We collect information about your computer hardware and software. This information can include: Device (such as PC, Mac, iPad/iPhone, Android device, etc.) your IP address, browser type, domain names, access times and referring Web site addresses. We use this information to stay up-to-date with current browser technologies, maintain quality of the service, and to provide general statistics regarding the use of our Platforms.

Should your Personal Information change or you wish to amend and/or correct this Personal Information you can do this by updating your registered user information in your account profile.

You warrant that the information you have provided is accurate, current, true and correct and that does not impersonate or misrepresent any person or entity or falsely state or otherwise misrepresent your affiliation with anyone or anything.

We collect this information to provide a better online experience for all users of our Platforms. By understanding what our customers’ habits and needs are we can address those in future development. We also use your collected information to inform you of other products or services available from our Platforms. On rare occasions you may be contacted to complete a survey relating to products, website browsing experience, or other issues relating to our Platforms.

We do not sell, rent or lease our customer lists to third parties. We may share data with trusted partners to help us perform statistical analysis, send you email or postal mail, provide customer support, or arrange for deliveries. All such third parties are prohibited from using your personal information except to provide these services to us, and they are required to maintain the confidentiality of your information.

We will disclose your personal information, without notice, only if required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to: (a) conform to the edicts of the law or comply with legal process served on our Platforms or the publishers; (b) protect and defend our rights or property and, (c) act under exigent circumstances to protect the personal safety of users of our Platforms, or the public.

We retain your Personal Information for as long as necessary to achieve the purpose for which it was collected or subsequently processed.
